President Joko Widodo Arrived in Brussels for EU-ASEAN Summit

President Jokowi was greeted by dozens of Indonesian citizens as he arrived in Brussels to join the 45th Anniversary ASEAN-EU Summit.

Liputan6.com, Brussels - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Iriana Jokowi arrived in Brussels, Belgium. The Garuda Indonesia GIA-1 plane carrying Jokowi and the delegation arrived at Abelag Airport, Brussels at around 18.00 local time, Tuesday (13/12).

There were several officials appearing to welcome Jokowi, including Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs official Anne Vandormael, European Council official Simona Nikiforova, Indonesian Ambassador to Brussels Andri Hadi, and Defense Attache to the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague, Belgium, and Luxembourg Muhamad Wirda Prayogo and his wife.

Jokowi came to Brussels to join the 45th Anniversary ASEAN-EU Summit this Wednesday.

During his visit, Jokowi was also accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita were already in Brussels to attend the series meeting of the ASEAN-European Union Summit and prepare for President Jokowi's visit.

EU-ASEAN Summit marks the first-ever summit between the leaders of EU and ASEAN member states marks 45 years of diplomatic relations.

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the 2022 ASEAN Chair, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen are the co-chairs the EU-ASEAN commemorative summit.

"The EU-ASEAN commemorative summit is expected to demonstrate the two organisations’ shared commitment to the rules-based international order, international law and respect for national sovereignty, with the UN Charter at its core," wrote the EU on its official website.
