Kenyataan pahit ini kemudian menginspirasi James untuk membuat sebuah surat perpisahan, melalui sebuah lagu bertajuk Monsters.

Ditulis oleh James Blunt, Amy Wadge, dan Jimmy Hogarts, lirik lagu Monsters menceritakan tentang isi hati seorang anak saat akan berpisah dengan ayahnya.

Lirik lagu yang rilis pada tahun 2019 ini merupakan single keempat dari album keenam James Blunt, yang berjudul Once Upon a Mind. "Ketika saya menyadari ayah saya akan tiada, itu adalah kesempatan besar untuk mengatakan hal-hal yang ingin saya katakan kepadanya," ucap James Blunt dalam sebuah wawancara.

Seolah belum cukup puas dengan lirik yang sangat mengharukan, lirik lagu James Blunt membawa lagu ini ke level yang lain lewat sebuah videoklip emosional yang turut dibintangi langsung oleh sang ayah.

Khusus lagu ini, James Blunt bahkan mengaku membiarkan suaranya terdengar mentah tanpa sentuhan apapun, agar emosinya bisa sampai dengan sempurna ke telinga pendengar.

Hasilnya, tentu saja menyayat hati. Rudi Kinsella dari majalah online Joe, bahkan menyebut videoklip Monsters sebagai salah satu video musik paling emosional yang pernah ada.
