Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesia has been chosen as the leader of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and is scheduled to hold the 15th IORA event at both Jakarta and Padang on 20 to 23 of October 2015.

Such leading position is very much valued, and thus the government immediately seeks for a meeting at the ministerial level to discuss the agenda of the event which will be attended by leading figures from countries in the Indian Ocean region.

All IORA members including Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius will witness the inauguration of Indonesia as the official leader of IORA until 2017.

They are planning to send their representatives to the two cities for the event this October.

According to the General Director of Asia, Pacific and Africa, Yuri Thamrin, the decision to choose Padang as one of the hosting cities for IORA event is specifically driven by the fact that its location is the one situated closely to the Indian Ocean.

Furthermore, the population in this area is reported to have been very eager in welcoming such event.

"Padang is situated near the Indian Ocean, that is why, apart from its strategic location, the people enthusiastically await for the event to take place," Yuri told Liputan6.com, Monday (1/6/2015). (Akp/Tnt)
