Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Independent Papua Organization (OPM) has previously challenged the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and Police Force (Polri) by inviting them to engage in an open warfare.

Members of this separatist organization have come the conclusion that their sacrifices can no longer be bargained and thus they are willing to fight for their own independence.

The Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdjiatno explains how the threats coming from the separatist group are no longer there or valid.

"There is still an OPM in Papua. But we deliberately changed what it stands for from Independent Papua Organization to 'Developing Papua People' " Minister Tedjo said, Tuesday (26/5/2015).

He further explains how he has witnessed himself a blatant progression of the development in Papua especially during President Jokowi's visitation from 8 to 11 May 2015.

The purpose of President Jokowi's visitation was to launch the commencement of a number of development projects in the area.

This means that the Indonesian government is doing whatever they can to gain influence and prevent any efforts of separatism.

President Jokowi has also instructed for every involving authority to maintain the balance of power in the region and prevent the destabilization of its economy and politics that may be harmful to President Jokowi’s current post.

He envisions a peaceful surrounding in the region and hopes that issues can be addressed quickly. (Akp/Ein)
