Liputan6.com, Padang - A karaoke girl was thrown into the sea by several men in Pesisir Selatan district, West Sumatra Province. It was apparently a punishment for her job that was seen as offensive in the holy month of Ramadan.
A viral video shows the men dragged her in the beach and threw her to the sea. The woman works as a Lady Companion (LC) in a karaoke establishment.

One of the men was heard threatening her so that she would bath in the sea waves. Despite her please, nobody helped the woman as her body was thrown into the shallow water.

"Abang help me. I don't do anything," the woman heard saying.
Abang is a Malay/Indonesian word that means big brother. The word is generally used to informaly address a man, especially if their age is supposedly older.
As the woman was drenched, another man was trying to strip her by pulling off her tshirt.
After the video went viral, the netizens criticized the men's behavior as illegal persecution.
Spokesperson of West Sumatera Regional Police, Chief Commissioner Dwi Sulistyawan, already confirmed the incident happened in Lengayang District, Pesisir Selatan Regency. It happened on Saturday night, 8 April 2023.
The police said the locals were angry because the woman was still working at the karaoke during Ramadhan. This persecution case is investigating this persecution case.
"That is already violating human rights," said the chief of resort police of Pesisir Selatan, Novianto Taryono.
