Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has previously expressed its disapprobation towards the rampantly growing usage of online ojek transportation. The Ministry also previously sought for the implementation of censure against it thus that it would be halted from effective operation.

Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo is reportedly surprised to hear that a plan on banning online ojek transportation becomes one of the main agenda put forth by the Ministry of Transportation.

President Jokowi questions the very breeding ground to such decision made by the Ministry of Transportation. He said that he is not in favor of Ministry Transportation’s decision as the online platform service is necessitated for the general population as it is inexpensive, safe and quick. According to him, it is not wrong to have a service outlet providing such privilege to people and tat the Ministry should have reconsidered applying such banning mechanism for something that holds great importance to the everyday needs of people.

“Who came up with the policies? We, the government should be the one managing it right? Now as long as that platform is needed by the people, then I don’t see any problem with it,” President Jokowi stated.

According to him, it is advisable for Ministry of Transportation to reconsider that act of banning the platform and instead, focus on making several adjustment through transitional policy that would help the creation of a smooth transition from the original condition.

“Focus more on the transition, to make our mass transportation a good one, an effective, comfortable one, so naturally when we fix our mass transportations, people will be more attracted to use the tangible ones instead of online one,” he concluded.
