Liputan6.com, Jakarta - President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo is currently at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, to meet a number of foreign delegations who came to attend the 60th Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) Commemoration. This morning, he conducted a meeting with the Prime Minister of Palestine, Dr. Rami Hamdallah. The meeting started at 10.05 AM at Kakatua Room.

President Jokowi was accompanied by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Relations, Retno Marsudi, Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel and the Cabinet Secretary, Andi Widjajanto. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prime Minister was consorted by his Foreign Minister Riyad Al- Maliki.

The bilateral meeting between the Indonesia and Palestine was predominantly centered, around discussion on Indonesia's support on the Palestinian independence declaration.

"Palestine is currently the only nation that is still under the subjugation of colonialism," President Jokowi informed during a press conference at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday (21/4/2015).

One of the most expected outcomes from this year’s Conference is the utmost support from Indonesia and participating countries for the declaration of Palestinian independence.

"We have to be convinced that such expectation can be fulfilled," President Jokowi expressed his encouragement in front of the media.

Palestinian Minister of foreign Relations, Riyad Al Maliki has previously shared the difficulty faced in gaining support for independence from the UN Security Council.

He shares how Palestine has resorted to the United Nation Security Council for so many times to request for help. However, the effort is not without any hindrance.

"Well we have tried the Security Council. We failed because the United States intervened. We will be seeking help again from the Security Council to help end Israeli military occupation because we think we deserve such independence," Minister Al Maliki explained, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Monday 20 April 2015.

The 60th Asia-Africa Conference Commemoration and the inclusion of consideration for supports on Palestinian independence in the agenda have been seen a crucial platform for participating nations to attain peace restoration once and for all. (Akp/Tnt)
