Nestle Building Elevator Unexpected 'Drop' Killing 2 Injuring 1

The elevator fell from the 7th floor all the way through the third floor of the building.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Head of South Jakarta Criminal Investigation Unit Audie Latuheru informs ealier that the elevator of Nestle Tower B situated in the area of Jalan TB Simpatupang South Jakarta has unexpectedly dropped from the 7th floor all the way through to the 3rd floor. The elevator only operates all across five floors with its ground being on the third.

"It fell from the 7th floor or from the floor above it. It just unexpectedly dropped all the way down to the 3rd floor," Audie said at the crime scene, Jakarta, Thursday 910/12/2015).

From the observation of Liputan6.com correspondent at the crime scene, the width gap between each floor is estimated to be around 4 meters away from each other which makes the elevator drop at a total of 20 meters from the 7th through to the 3rd floor.

Police investigation upon the case is still underway. It has been reported that the unexpected ‘drop’ occurred at 09.40 am.

"From the reports collected, it has been learned that maintenance was done to the elevator following a note given by Labor Force Inspectorate suggesting replacement of the main ropes which reportedly were corroded," Audi explained.

It is still unknown however whether the elevator drops due to corroded ropes or any other reason.

The incident has taken the lives of two Nestle staff as well as causing for one other victim to be critically injured.
