Parliament Approves Admiral Yudo Margono As The New Military Commander in Indonesia

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Plenary Meeting of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) officially approved Admiral Yudo Margono to be the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

This appointment marks the first admiral who becomes the Commander of TNI since Admiral Agus Suhartono who held the position from 2010 to 2013.

Admiral Yudo will replace General Andika Perkasa who is soon retiring. Earlier today, Yudo also attended the plenary meeting at the Parliament which was led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani on Tuesday (12/13/2022).

During the meeting, the Commission I of the House of Representatives submitted the report of the fit and proper test result for Admiral Yudo. The Commission I is the parliamentary commission that handles the defense and foreign affairs.

After hearing the report from Commission I, Puan Maharani asked permission from the Commission members to give approval.

"Is the report from Commission I of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in regards to the feasibility of the fit and proper test result about the dismissal of General Andika Perkasa and the appointment of Admiral Yudo Margono can be approved?" Puan asked.

"Agreed," the members replied. Puan then hit the gavel.

Last week, the Commission I already gave their approval for Admiral Yudo. Commission I Chairman Meutya Hafid said on Friday that the members agreed to support Admiral Yudo through deliberation.

Meutya also praised Admiral Yudo's track record, especially in how he previously handled the situation with China at the Natuna Sea.

Next, Yudo's name will be submitted to President Joko Widodo for further inauguration as the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
